A businessman has sued UAP Insurance for compensation for a vehicle that was involved in an accident.
Micah Kigen, through Nile International Ltd, wants the company to compensate him for a Land Cruiser car, which got an accident in Eldoret town.
In a suit filed at the High Court in Milimani, Nairobi, Kigen says he insured the car with the company’s South Sudan subsidiary after the 2013 clashes.
He says as the clashes between supporters of President Salva Krir and those of Vice President Riek Machar escalated, he fled back to Kenya with the car.
Kigen says after the South Sudan subsidiary recommended to him he could renew the insurance from Kenya, which he did on October 13, 2014.
He says when he informed the the South Sudan subsidiary of accident, the company refused to admit liability on the basis that the accident happened outside its jurisdiction.
